Teachers from Stirling High visit Finland
Head teacher, Mrs Scullion, and Principal Teacher, Mrs Stevenson, travelled to Helsinki last week. The visit was organized as part of the school’s partnership with Microsoft and the purpose of the visit was to explore the uses of technology in Finnish schools. They visited the Ministry of Education, a multi-media centre, the Microsoft Centre and two schools. They have brought back some good ideas that could be introduced to Stirling High School but they also discovered that there are many examples of good practice in Stirling High School that the Finnish schools were interested in. All pupils in Finland are entitled to free school meals - I wonder if our new government would be interested in that?!

12 secondary schools from across Forth Valley entered staff teams. The holders, Larbert High, sadly couldn’t attend and defend their trophy. The prospect of a new winner certainly spurred on every team! Every game was closely contested and played in a great spirit! The eventual final was between Graeme High School and Wallace High School with Wallace our new holders of the trophy. Congratulations. We would like to thank the 100 members of staff who attended and made the evening so enjoyable.
Stirling High School mock election
All Stirling High School pupils and staff took part in a mock election on Thursday morning, posting their votes, during form time, into the ballot box to calculate how the young generation would have voted in the polls.
Pupils were given the opportunity to vote for all the parties available in the Stirling constituency and had the chance to examine the main policies of the parties, which were on display in the Modern Studies department. Many S6 pupils had also attended the Stirling husting two weeks ago and were therefore fully informed and able to pass this knowledge on to the rest of their peers.
The poll returned an 87% turnout with Labour winning with 38% of the vote. Liberal Democrats came second with 21% of the vote. Third were Conservatives with 12% of the vote. SNP gained 10%. Green gained 6% of the vote and coming in last UKIP achieved 2% of the vote.
S5/6 Study Leave
Study leave began for S5/6 pupils yesterday (Tuesday). S5 pupils will return to school on Monday 7th June to begin their new timetable.

Loch Eil
Thirteen second year pupils from Stirling High School were selected to take part in a 5 day adventure and challenge course with the Outward Bound Trust at the Loch Eil centre. The group took part in abseiling, rock climbing, gorge walking and an expedition. The main focus of the week was to improve confidence by over coming new challenges and at the same time enjoying and experiencing real adventures. The expedition was the high-light of the week for the pupils and with out doubts the most challenging and rewarding. The group climbed half way up Ben Nevis and camped over night. They experienced cooking their own food on stoves and very much enjoyed taking in the natural environment. A real sense of achievement was felt by all pupils at the end of the week.
