Provost’s Civic Award
Stirling High School’s Mrs Trudi Togneri has been successfully nominated to receive a Provost’s Civic Award for her significant contribution in the Community Category. The Awards Ceremony will take place on Friday 29th October in Stirling Castle. This is a huge achievement and very well deserved!!
Stirling High School Young Bowlers
It has been a fantastic summer for our young bowlers. On Saturday 26th June two of our pupils travelled to Ardrossan Bowling Club. Lee Neilson and Rachel McKerracher of 3D3 were chosen, along with two other young bowlers from the region to represent Central West in an Under 14’s rink Scottish competition. The day long event brought together teams from the various SYBA districts throughout Scotland to compete for the Alan Michie Trophy. Lee, Rachel, Amy (Abronhill) and Callum (Dunblane) were undefeated throughout the tournament and became Scottish Champions by winning the title with victory over Ayrshire North in the final.
Also during the summer break, Lee Neilson S3 and Ryan Johnston of S4 were part of a team which competed in an open triples event, at Condorrat Bowling Club and run out worthy winners in a fantastic final against Dunblane.
Greig Blennie, Rachel McKerracher and Lee Neilson all S3 had been chosen to play for their county Central West and played their first match on Sunday 22nd August at Kinneil Bowling Club, Boness where they were the eventual tournament runners-up to West Lothian. But despite the disappointment of being second they did beat local rivals Central East in the derby game and won the shield.
Greig, Rachel and Lee are also representing their club, Cambusbarron, in a knockout triples event and have reached the final after winning their semi final match against Condorrat. Lee retained his title as Junior Champion at Cambusbarron with a win over Grant Macdonald of S4 in a great final. But the highlight of the summer has been that Lee Neilson of 3D3 has been chosen to play for Scotland under 17’s. His first match will be on the 12th September at Shettleston Green against the North of England. Well done Lee!!!

Changes to Bus Fares
By noblettp06s | June 24, 2010
Please be aware that First East Scotland have recently advised us of a general bus service fares increase that will be put into effect on Sunday 27 June 2010.
The timing is not great in that there is no time to advise anyone that the fares that pupils pay for schools journeys as from 17 August 2010 will be increased. First have indicated that the overall increase will be no more than 5.775%. The basic increase on adult single fares will be :
£2.15 and below will increase by 10p although a significant proportion of
fares £1.20 and below will not increase.
£2.20 to £4.90 will increase by 20p
£5.00 and above will increase by 30p
We appreciate there is very little time to inform pupils of this but if there is an opportunity to let the pupils know, that would be helpful.
If anyone wishes further information or is wanting to take this further, contact should be made with First Scotland East on 08708 727271.

French Trip
A group of S3/4 have just returned from an action-packed stay on the Opal Coast in the north of France. We departed on Wednesday evening and after a smooth journey south, arrived in sunny France via the Eurotunnel at 10am on Thursday morning. We wasted no time in getting started and visited a local chocolate factory just after midday! The gastronomic theme continued over the next two days with visits to a traditional bakery, a cheese farm, a snail farm and the market in Boulogne. The visit to the snail farm proved especially popular and most pupils even braved the taste test! We returned safe and sound but thoroughly exhausted on Sunday evening, just in time for school on Monday. A wonderful time was had by all and the pupils thoroughly enjoyed the many opportunities to practice their French language skills.
